What Do We Value Most?
At Cornerstone, there are a few things which lie at the core of who we are. These values help focus our efforts and filter the opportunities that come our way.
In the fall of 2021, Pastor Scott Savage taught through each of our values in a series entitled The Core: Exploring What We Value Most.

SURRENDERING TO JESUS’ AGENDA
Jesus is the head of Cornerstone and we follow His leadership. We don’t allow selfish agendas to drive or divide our church, practicing the discipline of surrender continually. By praying together, we release our wills and invite God to unite us under His leadership.(Acts 4:10-12, Romans 12:1-2, John 21:18-19, James 4:7, Proverbs 3:5-6, Acts 4:32)
SUBMITTING TO SCRIPTURE
The Bible is the ultimate authority by which we discern and determine everything we do and think. Therefore, we believe all that it teaches, seek to obey all that it requires, and trust all that it promises. (James 1:22-25, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 12:1-2, 2 Cor. 1:20)
FIGHTING FOR SIMPLICITY
We are a simple church with a passion for transformation. We focus on a map of next steps, rather than a menu of programs. In each step, we refuse to settle for merely learning new information. With a bias for application, we seek to live what we learn together. (James 1:22-25; Hebrews 6:1; Acts 2:42-47; Matthew 22:37-40; Matthew 6:33; 1 Corinthians 8:1-3; Colossians 1:24-29)
EQUIPPING PEOPLE TO LIVE OUT THEIR FAITH IN PUBLIC
We have been placed in jobs, neighborhoods, and relationships by God on purpose and for a purpose. We equip people with the resources they need to live out their faith in the midst of everyday life, furthering our mission inside and outside of the church’s walls. When people get stuck in that calling, they know that our church is a resource for the content and community needed to help them get unstuck. (Ephesians 4:11-16; Colossians 1:25-28; Acts 17:11; 1 Chronicles 12:32; Hebrews 10:24-25; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Ephesians 2:10)
PRACTICING UNITY IN A DIVIDED WORLD
The church of Jesus is an expression of harmony, not uniformity. Our mantra is “in essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love.” We leave space for respectful differences on secondary issues in a spirit of generous love, while courageously holding to convictions on the essentials of the Christian faith. (Acts 15:1-21, Philippians 2:1-4, John 17:20-21, Romans 12:16, Romans 14:19, Ephesians 4:13)
PURSUING HEALTH TOGETHER
Life has wounded all of us. While past relationships may have hurt us, God uses relationships to heal us too. We seek to become a healthy church together by welcoming the hurting, showing the struggle, and trusting Jesus’ healing power. (Matthew 11:28-30; 2 Corinthians 4:7-12, James 5:16; 1 Corinthians 2:1-5; Proverbs 4:20-23; 2 Corinthians 5:16-17; 2 Corinthians 12:8-10)
EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION NOW
As young adults are abandoning their faith in high school and college, we seek to equip and empower the next generation to serve and lead today. We invest in our children and students, inspiring them to own and guiding them to practice their faith in real and meaningful ways. Each week, students are visibly serving in the life of the church. (1 Timothy 4:12-16; Psalm 78:4-6; Psalm 145:3-4; Jude 1:3)
GETTING UNCOMFORTABLE FOR PRESCOTT AND THE WORLD
All too often, the church is known for what it’s against. We want to be known for something different - our love and care for people. We call this mindset “For Prescott and For the World.” Just as Jesus was sent into the world because of God’s love, we have been sent into the world to share the good news of God’s love. As sent people with this mindset, we embrace Spirit-led opportunities where we leave behind our comforts to serve others and share the Gospel. (John 15:13, 16; John 3:16-21; John 20:21; 2 Corinthians 5:20; Mark 8:34; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Mark 16:15)
